Choosing a Lead Company

May 31st, 2006 · No Comments

The leads generation business is a very serious business.  It is about having another entity separate from your company to refer business to you for increased productivity.  However, all user companies should take time to consider the features of any lead company before making the investment.

All lead companies will claim to have the best leads and the best deals.  There is not one exact cut for the best in this case.  It will depend on your specific needs and how well equipped the lead company is able to answer these needs.  Do not waste your time finding a lead company that will guarantee a 100% closure rate because there is no such thing.  Leads are probable business that would need excellent selling skills and products or services to close a deal.

There are a few things to consider before committing your resources to a company that you will have to work with.  Pricing is one of the major considerations especially for businesses on a tight budget.  If you have a set amount allotted, you can promptly narrow down your search options to companies that have something to offer within your spending limit.  The way a company generates their leads should be clarified.  There are companies that recycle their leads and sell them many times over while others offer exclusivity.  Know how such procedures will affect the particular nature of your business.

The question as to what to choose between quality and quantity is best answered by you using your previous sales as guide.  Leads that are bought in bulk may be old and recycled with a poor closing ratio.  Fewer but fresh leads for the same amount may provide a better result. Find a lead company with a liberal return policy especially for leads with false or erroneous contact information.  Lead site reviews can provide you information with regards to this matter.

Some companies would allow prospective clients to go into a site and view a lead before purchasing.  This is called the Cherry Picking feature.  Filters is another useful feature that allows you to predetermine what kind of lead you want thus when a match comes up,  it is sent directly to your e-mail or fax.

You are off to a good start in choosing when you are able to get hold of reliable referrals from someone who has had success with a particular lead company.  This is more helpful if the referral was obtained from people within your organization or the same nature of business.  Having more or less the same business requirements, such referral would have some sound basis.

<>Exclusivity of leads is possible but with a higher price.  Exclusive leads are the ones sold in real time and sold to you only.  Non-exclusive lead is sold at an average of three to five times and will entail competition from other sellers.  Choosing exclusive leads eliminates competition although there are chances that the prospective buyer may have contacted other options.  However, the natural tendency of people to limit the personal information they give out on the internet minimizes this possibility.

After all considerations, do not forget to look into the level of competency and commitment given by the company to customer service.  The way they would handle themselves would always affect you in some way.  A lead company that shares your goal and vision would always be a good bet.
